Wisconsin Police Officer's Union Sends Letter Threatening Businesses With Boycott

Shouldn't Cops be against bullying? I always thought the men who where badges were supposed to be non political and treat everyone equal before the law. Well folks, here is a link to a letter that was sent to many businesses by the police and fire fighters unions in WI demanding that they publicly denounce Gov Scott Walker or else they will be BOYCOTTED! So how does this work? The people that we pay to protect the public and their property from criminals is threating to publicly boycott businesses that don't fall in line with their politics. Are the businesses that refuse to sub come to the threats made by law enforcement going to receive the same police protection that the pro union businesses receive? Here are some of the excerpts from the police union threat.
The undersigned groups would like your company to publicly oppose Governor
Walker’s efforts to virtually eliminate collective bargaining for public employees in
Wisconsin. While we appreciate that you may need some time to consider this
request, we ask for your response by March 17. In the event that you do not
respond to this request by that date, we will assume that you stand with
Governor Walker and against the teachers, nurses, police officers, fire fighters,
and other dedicated public employees who serve our communities.
In the event that you cannot support this effort to save collective bargaining,
please be advised that the undersigned will publicly and formally boycott the
goods and services provided by your company. However, if you join us, we will
do everything in our power to publicly celebrate your partnership in the fight to
preserve the right of public employees to be heard at the bargaining table.

  1. I hope it is generally understood that although they are boycotting the business, it does not mean that any person supporting the boycott will neglect their duties as police officers, firefighters, and teachers. They are consumers who are choosing to not spend their income supporting business that support Gov. Walker and his political agenda. Democracy has failed some of us, as Gov. Walker and the republicans who voted for his bill in both houses did not carry out the will of their constituents. Now we, the people of Wisconsin, have to use other peaceful means to have our voices heard. It is an issue about bullying, but who is bullying who? Certainly those in power, those how have chosen to abuse their power, should reflect on their actions. I know our local law enforcement will not at any point neglect their duties to protect and keep every single person and business safe, regardless of who they support politically. This though does not require them to give their money to any business, which is their right in a free society and a free market.

  2. Ya sure, the police and fire fighters will not put their union ahead of their sworn oath. Just like the Teachers wouldn't close schools and doctore wounld not write illegal ilness excuses, and like the police would not allow themselves to be intimidated in the state capitol by the fire fighter protesters. Sure this bully attitude wont keep police and fire from doing their jobs. Ya sure!

  3. Boycott is a legitimate tool of the union. Taking away union collective bargaining rights is a heinous act which is being responded to by the unions. It worked for the United Farm Workers and may just work here.

  4. That letter is a prime example of why public employees should not be allowed to organize. If I was a Wisconsin business and I received that, I would be raging mad. Screw them. I'd like to see a large business threatened in this way layoff their workforce for 2 weeks as a demonstration.

Also, the citizens should band together and refuse to pay the property tax bill when it comes. Again, screw those parasites.

  5. A policeman's union should not sending letters out threatening a boycott of anyone or anything. That is called extortion. If individual policemen want to do it that is fine but when you start allowing an entire union to to use coercion as a tool to push their agenda you have crossed a line. The fact that there are more public sector union members than private sector members tell you that they have become an enforcement arm of the political party they favor. Unions used to be against higher taxes but that changed when there the public sector members became the majority. They now want more taxes to fund their political ideology and tax payers be damned.

  6. Cops are like anyone else. They will use their power to keep their power. The problem is cops have an inordinate amount of power. They are the enforcement arm of the government and they have a monopoly on force.

In our free and civil society we accept that this is the only way it can but we must put checks in place to balance these powers. FDR was a big fan of the labor movement but he didn't support public employees unions for this very reason. If the people that work in the government can organize and lobby using the powers of the government, the people will have lost control of the government.

Teachers have a virtual monopoly on education and a handful of their most zealous demonstrated how important they are by shutting down school systems across the state with a sickout. Now we have the police agitating in the same direction. What is the easiest way for a handful of their zealots to demonstrate how important they are to the functioning of society?

If you aren't scared you ought to be. This is scary stuff. These are cops! Who is gonna bust them when they break the law? Other union cops? Sure.

There's a reason the army let the people burn down the police stations in Egypt. There was no check against the police's power to organize against the people. They were an arm of the state that even the state could not control.

I don't want to see that happen with our cops and I'm not saying it is. What I am saying is that policeman's unions sending threatening letters to local private businessmen for their political beliefs isn't a precedent we should hope to be setting just because teacher says Scott Walker = Hitler.

  7. This is a classic reason why unions have gotten such a bad name in this country. It is a scary thought to have our local police and firefighters threatening businesses in this way. Those letters are nothing different than the gangs in chicago threatening businesses to pay up for protection , or else.....
